Additional Services

  • Pre-approval from the state is required to sit for the examination.
  • Please note that the Alabama Business and Law exam is also required to be passed to obtain your contractor’s license.
  • This license is required for work over $50,000.
  • Applicants must document at least 3 completed projects in the past 3 years in the category for which they apply.
  • The Board requires applicants to complete an official financial statement form provided by the Board which requires current financial information, less than 1 year old. It must be completed by a CPA and show that applicants meet the Board’s $10,000 minimum net worth AND working capital requirement. Maximum bid limits will be set depending on financial status.
  • There are no state mandated financial requirements for this license at this time.
  • This license includes clearing, grubbing, grading, paving, curbs, gutters, walks, alleys, driveways, sewer projects, water projects, gas projects, electric projects, telephone projects, and work incidental thereto.

    To apply, contact the state of Alabama at 1-334-272-5030. The application fee is $300. In addition there is a $100 fee to be donated to construction education. The application must be submitted to the board at least 30 days before the next board meeting. The Board meets in January, April, July and October.

    Alabama has a reciprocity agreement with the following states for applicants that have held a license for 3 consecutive years: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.

    As of this time, Alabama doesn’t require continuing education for the Municipal and Utilities Contractor’s license.

    • The fee for the exam is $202.00.
    • The Alabama Municipal and Utilities Exam has 90 questions and a time limit of 220 minutes.
    • A score of 70% is required. (63 correct)
    • Topics covered on the exam are excavation and grading, electrical power distribution, fuel distribution, swimming pools, concrete and concrete reinforcement, shotcrete and gunite, water and sewer piping, communication systems, boring and tunneling, erosion and sedimentation control, safety, one call, and welding.

    We do not offer a preparation class for the Alabama Municipal and Utilities license at this time. However, we do currently offer a seminar to prepare you for the required Business Law Exam.
