Pre-approval from the state is required to sit for the examination.
Please note that the Alabama Business and Law exam is also required to be passed to obtain your contractor’s license.
Building Construction (Commercial)- NASCLA ACCREDITED contractors must submit verification of 3 years experience and a financial statement with the completed application.
Financial Limits are based on the applicants net worth or working capital, whichever the lesser.
There is no mandated bond or insurance requirements at this time.

The Building Construction (Commercial) - NASCLA ACCREDITED license allows Commercial projects ONLY.

Building construction shall include the excavation and foundations for buildings and work incidental thereto.

To apply, contact the state of Alabama at 1-334-272-5030. The application fee is $300. The application must be submitted to the board at least 30 days before the next board meeting, which are normally held in January, April, July, and October.

Prov Examinations

NASCLA Accredited license is accepted in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia & the Virgin Islands.

West Virginia will accept the NASCLA exam scores for the West Virginia General Contractor, provided the NASCLA exam was passed after 11/1/2013.

Nevada will accept the NASCLA exam scores if the exam was passed after 12/1/2013. This is for the same classification. As of 8/1/2017, Arizona began accepting this examination in lieu trade examinations for the B-1 and B-2 General Commercial Contracting Classifications. As of 11/21/2017 Arizona also began administering the NASCLA exam.

As of 3/1/2019, Florida is accepting the NASCLA exam. Scores from the NASCLA exam are now acceptable for the Residential, Building, or General Contractor classifications. Applicants using the NASCLA exam will still be required to pass the Florida Business and Finance exams and meet all other application requirements.

As of this time, Alabama has no continuing education for this license.

PSI administers the exam. PSI is a NASCLA approved exam provider, therefore, this is a NASCLA Accredited Exam.

The fee for the exam is $202.00.
The Alabama Building Contractor (Commercial) Exam has 115 questions and a time limit of 300 minutes.
Must get at least 81 questions correct to pass.
