Oklahoma Residential Electrical Contractor w/ Business Law

This license allows work in the design, plan, layout, installation, repair and alteration of electrical conductors, fixtures, appliances, apparatus, raceways, conduit and related equipment and fixtures that use electrical energy for light, heat, power, data and communications as it applies to one-, two-, or three-family residences.  Applicants must take the Electrical Business and Law Exam in addition to the Residential Electrical Contractor Exam in order to obtain this license.

Applicants must take the Electrical Business and Law Exam in addition to the Residential Electrical Contractor Exam in order to obtain this license.

A completed application must be submitted to the state licensing board to obtain approval to test.

Applicants must have 8,000 hours of on the job electrical construction experience. · 4,000 hours as an apprentice or 4,000 hours may be satisfied by formal electrical related education · 4,000 hours as a residential or unlimited journeyman electrician under the supervision of an electrical contractor · Passed the residential or unlimited journeyman electrical exam

There are no state mandated minimum financial requirements for this license.

All active Electrical Contractors must obtain a $5,000 Surety Bond, as well as Liability Insurance of at least $50,000.

Fees must accompany the application. The licensing fee is $330. ($300 for license & $30 for processing)

Applications will be processed once per week. Wait time for approval should be less than two weeks.

The Board may enter into a reciprocity agreement with another State if the requirements for licensure in the other State are deemed by the Board to be substantially the same or equivalent to the requirements for obtaining an original license by examination in this state

Oklahoma requires that 6 hours of approved CE must be completed every 36 months (3 years). A licensee is exempt from these requirements for 3 years from the date he or she initially passes the current licensing exam.   As of July 1, 2014, no contractor or journeyman license shall be renewed unless 6 hours of Continuing Education, within the last 36 months (3 years), have been completed.  Thereafter, 6 hours of CE must be completed every 3 years (36 months).

The exam is given by PSI. It is an open-book, timed test with 80 questions and a 3.5-hour time limit. A score of at least 75% is required to pass the test. The exam fee is $100.00 per exam
