Required Books
The references listed below are permitted in to the exam.
The IPC and IRC will be provided at the test
center. You may not write, highlight, underline, and/or index
in the references. You may not use any other materials.
Candidates are encouraged to review the IPC and IRC,
especially in regard to those job task areas in which they
need preparation.
Also, review of plumbing theory and
common formulas is advised. Any of the several commonly
used textbooks adopted by apprenticeship and community
college training programs will be sufficient for this purpose.
It is your responsibility to know and to be able to use basic
plumbing theory formulas since such knowledge may be
required to work calculation problems on the
examination.

Pre-Approval from the Board is required to sit for the exam.
Examination and experience requirements exist for Master, Residential, and Journeymen plumber applicants.
Plumbing work is regulated at the state level and, in some cases, at the local level.
Experience requirements consist of five years for Masters, two years or 3,400 hours for Residential, and four years or 6,800 hours for Journeymen. Reciprocity Plumbing licenses, in some cases, may be obtained by endorsement. For endorsement information, contact the board.

Colorado does not currently require Continuing Education. This is subject to change. Contact the Board for specific license inquiry.
Examination Information/Requirements:
Exam fees are $75.00 for exam and $70.00 for re-test
The Journeyman Plumber & residential Plumber are each a 100 question exam witha 4-hr time limit and a 70% is required to pass. The Master Plumber exam is a 120 question, multiple-choice exam with a 4 1/2 -hr time limit. 70% is required to pass.
Subject areas for all exams include: Water Supply,Vents,Fixtures and Equipment,Piping Support and System Protection,Traps, Sanitary Drainage Systems, Residential Fire Sprinklers, and Water Heaters. The Journeyman and Master plumber exams also include Isometric Analysis.
American Contractors currently does not offer a preparation seminar for the Colorado plumbing exam. We do carry the references approved for study.
