Additional Services
This license allows contracts including the installation, repair, maintenance, and/or alteration of heating systems, boilers, process piping, and mechanical refrigeration systems, including tanks incidental to the system.

Licensing Fees for both Master and Journeyman HVAC Classifications are $90.00
Licenses belong to the business. A person can take the exam and pass and qualify his or her business. If they purchase a second business, they do not have to test, but they must submit a new application for the new business.

The state of Virginia does not have reciprocity for any HVAC classifications.
Testing is administered by PSI.
The Journeyman exam is open-book, 85 questions with 210 minutes to complete and 70% is required to pass.
The Master exam is open-book, 85 questions with 210 minutes to complete and 75% is required to pass.
The cost of the exam depends on the number of exam portions being taken.
There is a $100.00 fee for the Journeyman Technical exam.
There is a $125.00 fee for the Master Technical exam.
Technical exam content includes: Warm Air Heating, Ventilation Systems, Air Conditioning Systems, Chimneys, Flues and Vents, Boilers, Hot Water Piping, Duct Systems, Combustion Air, Controls/Low Voltage, Fuel Oil Piping and Storage, Insulation, Commercial Kitchen Venting, Refrigerants, Refrigerant Piping, Chilled and Condenser Water Piping and Firestopping/Penetration Inspection.
The Statutory/Regulatory questions are now included in the Tradesman exam and content includes: Standards of Practice, Standards of Conduct, Renewal and Reinstatement, Definitions, Qualification for Licensure and Revocation of Licensure.
